ISLAMABAD: Interim Punjab Education Minister Mansoor Qadir announced on Monday that the government has decided not to close educational institutions in the province this Wednesday (October 18).

Caretakers had been considering a proposal to close schools and offices on Wednesdays in addition to the regular weekly offs due to severe smog conditions. However, recent rains have improved air quality in Lahore, the most affected area, which led to the postponement of this decision.

Mansoor Qadir stated, “Schools will remain open this Wednesday. We will continue to hold weekly meetings to address the smog issue and make decisions accordingly.”

During the same press conference, caretaker Information Minister Aamir Mir emphasized the importance of raising awareness about smog, noting that it causes health issues for people every year. He also mentioned that the government has implemented Section 144 to combat smog and has imposed restrictions on certain vehicles to prevent further smog pollution.
