ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Faisal Vawda has attributed the appreciation of the Pakistani currency against the US dollar to the military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir.

In a statement given on a private TV channel, Vawda expressed his appreciation, stating, “We should acknowledge and honor this achievement. It is a day of celebration for Pakistan. The value of the dollar has seen a decline following the directives issued by the army chief to DG ISI and DG C.”

He went on to credit General Munir for the local currency’s gain of Rs15 to Rs16, with expectations of further depreciation by Rs10 against the US dollar in the coming days.

Vawda also criticized the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), claiming it played no role in halting the rupee’s decline, stating, “The State Bank is ineffective and unable to address the situation.”

It’s important to note that the Pakistani rupee has continued to strengthen against the US dollar due to recent crackdowns on currency hoarders and smugglers by the authorities.

When asked about the measures taken to address the crisis, Vawda mentioned that they had implemented regulations and controls on exchange companies and took action against individuals involved in currency smuggling.

Addressing another concern, Vawda raised the issue of 18 corrupt political leaders, asserting that various political parties were detrimental to the country and the judiciary. He expressed confidence in the outgoing Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s intentions and suggested that the incoming Chief Justice, an “upright man,” would not harm the people.

Throughout the show, Vawda accused these political parties of causing harm to the nation, suggesting that their removal could lead to significant improvements for the country.
