Elon Musk, the owner of the streaming website Twitter, has confirmed that the platform will soon feature audio and video calls.
This marks the first time Twitter will offer a feature similar to those found on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp.
For over fifteen years, Twitter refrained from offering audio or video call functionalities, but the landscape shifted dramatically following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform, ushering in a wave of anticipated changes. Reports initially surfaced in May 2023, hinting at Twitter’s plans to introduce video and audio calling features, and now, Elon Musk has unequivocally confirmed these intentions.
In a concise tweet, Elon Musk affirmed that Twitter would soon roll out audio and video calling options. He further disclosed that this feature would be seamlessly integrated into both the web version and the mobile application. Elon Musk made it abundantly clear that the audio and video calling feature on Twitter would not necessitate a mobile phone number, functioning similarly to the audio and video calling features found on Facebook Messenger.
Furthermore, there’s speculation regarding the potential introduction of a payment feature on Twitter in the future. However, the timeline for the implementation of this feature remains uncertain, with expectations that it may take more than a year for it to become a reality.
Since Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, the platform has undergone a series of transformative changes, with more innovations and updates on the horizon. Notably, the shift from providing free blue verification badges to verified accounts to instituting a monthly fee has been among the significant shifts brought about under Musk’s leadership.
