Babar Azam Sets New Record: Highest Run Scorer in First 100 ODIs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Pakistan captain Babar Azam continues his streak of collecting titles, achieving yet another milestone. Babar’s latest accomplishment is securing the record for the highest run scorer in the first 100 one-day internationals (ODI) innings, amassing a total of 5142 runs in this format.

The exceptional cricketer, who holds the top position in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) ODI batters ranking, reached this achievement by marking his 27th half-century during the second match against Afghanistan in Hambantota on August 24.

The record for the most ODI runs previously belonged to South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who scored 4946 runs in his initial 100 ODI innings. Sir Vivian Richards holds the third position with 4607 runs.

Back in May, the 28-year-old cricket sensation set a blazing record by becoming the fastest player to reach 5,000 ODI runs.

Babar stands as the first cricketer to accomplish this feat in fewer than 100 innings, reaching the milestone in a mere 97 innings, thus becoming the 14th player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 5,000 runs.

Currently, Pakistan holds the second position in the ODI team rankings.

Babar’s leadership propelled the national team to the top spot in the ODI team rankings. This achievement was marked when the Men in Green successfully defended their colossal target of 334 runs during the fourth ODI match in the recent series against New Zealand.

However, a single loss in the five-match series resulted in Pakistan relinquishing their position.
