ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has categorically denied the news circulating regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 8.

In a tweet, she clarified that the specific date for dissolution has not been determined as of yet. The decision on the dissolution date will be made in consultation with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and its allied parties.

Minister Aurangzeb emphasized that the formal announcement regarding the dissolution date of the National Assembly will be made in due course.

Recent reports had suggested that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the People’s Party had reached an agreement to dissolve the National Assembly before its term ends, specifically on August 8. However, alternative dates of August 9 and 10 were also being considered for the potential dissolution.

It is important to note that the term of the National Assembly extends until August 12, midnight. Should the Assembly be dissolved prior to the completion of its term, a supervisory setup will be established for 90 days to oversee the general elections.

During his national address on July 13, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced his intention to transfer governance to a caretaker government in August 2023.
