In a tragic incident that unfolded in China’s southeastern province of Guangdong, a kindergarten (KG) school came under attack resulting in the loss of six lives, including three children. Foreign media reports indicate that a man entered the school premises and carried out the assault.
Authorities have confirmed that among the victims, three were children, while a teacher and two parents also lost their lives. One individual sustained injuries and has been promptly transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
The police have taken a 25-year-old suspect into custody, identified as Wu An, following the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that this was an unintended attack. As a precautionary measure, the surrounding areas have been cordoned off by the authorities.
This distressing event took place at approximately 7:40 a.m. local time on Monday, and swift action led to the arrest of an individual soon after.
Unfortunately, incidents of school attacks in China have been reported in the past. In August of last year, a school in the southeastern province of Jiangxi witnessed an attack claiming the lives of three individuals. Similarly, in April 2021, two children lost their lives in knife attacks. Another school attack in October 2018 resulted in injuries to 14 children.
The recurrence of such incidents highlights the growing concerns surrounding school safety and security in China.
