ISLAMABAD: Following the arrest of Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan’s political party Tehreek-e-Insaaf, several other top leaders have also been taken into custody.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested from the Gilgit-Baltistan House in Islamabad, while Fawad Chaudhry was apprehended outside the Supreme Court.
Asad Umar, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and Ali Haider Zaidi were already in custody.
According to the spokesperson of Islamabad Capital Police, these arrests were made to prevent a breach of peace caused by those who instigate violent protests, burnings, and encirclements.
The police have arrested other individuals, including Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Falaknaz Chitrali, Musrat Jamsheed Cheema, Malika Bukhari, and former MPA Ajmal Saber Raja.
The spokesperson assured the public that all arrests were made following legal requirements.
The police have arrested 80 more individuals during late-night operations, bringing the total number of arrests in the last two days to over 250.
The spokesperson added that those spreading rumors and inciting the public to violence should refrain from doing so, as more arrests are expected.
The accused who set fire to the Tarnool railway station, opened fire, and demolished railway tracks have also been arrested for damaging government property.
