LAHORE: Section 144 has been enforced across Punjab from 1st to 10th Muharram-ul-Haram to maintain law and order during the holy month. The restrictions include a ban on pillion riding and several other measures.
According to the Punjab Home Department, Section 144 will remain in effect from June 27 to July 6, 2025. The step has been taken to ensure public safety and prevent any sectarian tensions during Muharram.
A total of seven restrictions have been placed under Section 144. Only authorised Muharram processions and gatherings (majalis) will be allowed. Display or possession of weapons, explosives, or any flammable items in public places without official permission is strictly banned.
Slogans, signs, or statements that could hurt religious or ethnic sentiments are also prohibited. The law also applies to any sectarian or hate content shared on social media or other platforms.
The order bans setting up lookout points on rooftops along procession routes, and the collection of stones, bricks, bottles, or other materials. People will not be allowed to gather on rooftops or sit on shopfronts along procession paths.
