ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of Rs1.50 per unit in the base electricity tariff for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to sources, NEPRA has sent its decision regarding the new base tariff to the federal government for final approval. The proposed base tariff for the next fiscal year is Rs34 per unit, compared to the current fiscal year’s rate of Rs35.50 per unit.

Sources said the revised base tariff for consumers will be officially notified after the federal government gives its approval.

Meanwhile, electricity is expected to become costlier under the fuel price adjustment (FPA) for the month of May. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA seeking an increase of 10 paisas per unit. A public hearing on the request is scheduled for June 30.

It is worth mentioning that the monthly adjustment will not apply to K-Electric consumers.

Decision on CPPA’s Request

NEPRA has also issued its decision on CPPA’s request regarding the cost of electricity procurement for the next fiscal year. It has proposed a reduction of Rs1.02 per unit in the national average power purchase price, forwarding the decision to the federal government.
