LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of Punjab’s first film city, film studio, post-production lab, and Pakistan’s first film school to support the province’s film industry.
According to details, a location has been allocated for the film city, studio, and post-production lab within Nawaz Sharif IT City. Initial reviews of the project’s design and other preparations have been completed.
A “Punjab Film Fund Disbursement Committee” has been formed to provide financial support to filmmakers, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
The committee includes Minister for Information Azma Bukhari, Minister for Finance Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, and provincial secretaries of information, planning, finance, and tourism.

The committee main tasks include reviewing applications from filmmakers and production houses, evaluating scripts for new films and incomplete projects, and making decisions on fund allocation, eligibility criteria, and box office incentives. The committee can also form sub-committees as needed.
Report says that the committee, led by Marriyum Aurangzeb, has held its first meeting to discuss steps for reviving and developing the film industry in line with the Chief Minister’s vision. Grants will be provided to filmmakers this financial year to promote Punjab’s film industry.
These initiatives are expected to benefit the film industry across Punjab and Pakistan, creating opportunities for young actors, directors, and creators.
