PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced that transplant and implant services will be provided free of cost under the health card program across the province.
According to the details, KP Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif shared details, stating that the decision was made in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The government will pay for all costs of kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplants, as well as cochlear implants. He said this decision follows the goal of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan to provide good healthcare to common people.
Barrister Saif added that rehabilitation services for drug addicts will soon be included in the health card program. The Chief Minister has directed the health department to take immediate action.
The meeting also discussed regulations for cannabis cultivation and use for medical, research, and industrial purposes. The provincial government approved the formation of a regulatory authority to oversee cannabis cultivation, production, transportation, and use.

Provincial Agriculture Minister Sajjad Barkwal said that in the initial phase, cannabis cultivation will be limited to specific areas and allowed only for licensed farmers.
A group including the agriculture, health, tax, and drug control departments will be created to manage permits and oversight to arrange business activities under this plan. This effort is expected to help the medical and industrial fields while strengthening the local economy.
These steps by the KP government are seen as significant for public health and economic growth.
