LAOHRE: Lahore Railway Division has started work on shifting railway stations to solar energy under the PC-1 project.
After completing the solarization of Raiwind Railway Station, the process is now moving forward quickly at Gujranwala and Gujarat railway stations.
According to Divisional Electrical Engineer Muhammad Nasir of Lahore Division, solar systems will be installed at 14 major stations. These include Okara, Okara Cantt, Sangla Hill, Chak Jhumra, Kot Lakhpat, Walton, Lahore Cantt, Changa Manga, Kala Shah Kaku, and Kot Radha Kishan.
Once the solar systems are installed, each railway station will save 3,000 units of electricity per month, leading to savings of about 1.5 million rupees. In total, Lahore Railway Division will save 21 million rupees monthly on electricity through solarization.

The Divisional Electrical Engineer added that the solarization project, led by Divisional Superintendent Railway Lahore Muhammad Hanif Gul, will be completed soon.
Muhammad Hanif Gul, the Divisional Superintendent, said that solarization will provide uninterrupted power to railway stations, improving train operations. He also noted that this step will help the railway department save a significant amount of revenue.
It is worth mentioning that Lahore Railway Division is the first to start working on a solarization system under the PC-1 project.
