LONDON: A Pakistani student named Moosa Harraj has been chosen as the Oxford Union President for the Michaelmas Term 2025. He is studying for a Masters degree at Oxford University.
Moosa is the fourth person from Pakistan to hold this position. Before him, Benazir Bhutto, Ahmad Nawaz, and Israr Khan were also elected. He is the first Pakistani president from the Punjab region. He won the election against Chris Collins by 200 votes, getting 833 votes in total. Many people voted in this election.
Moosa’s father is Mohammad Raza Hayat Harraj, a Federal Minister in Pakistan. Moosa started at Oxford in 2023, studying Economics at Balliol College.
Before that, he went to Aitchison College in Lahore and Charterhouse School in Surrey. He also studied at the London School of Economics and Harvard University.

Moosa told with private tv channel: “I’m very happy to be elected as President of the Oxford Union. I thank Allah for this. It’s great that the members trust me. I hope this shows students from Pakistan and South Asia that they can aim high.”
Moosa’s team, called #Bridge, won all the officer roles. Katherine Yang will be the Librarian with 826 votes, Raza Nazar from Pakistan will be the Treasurer with 878 votes, and Jennifer Yang will be the Secretary with 855 votes. The Harraj family is well-known in Khanewal.
