ISLAMABAD: Islamabad’s district administration took action against overpricing during Ramadan 2025. They sealed two supermarkets in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and three shops in other parts of the city. They also arrested 51 vendors across Islamabad.
As per private newspaper report, the crackdown focused on markets, Ramadan bazaars, and residential areas. It aimed to enforce official price lists as food costs rise due to inflation during Ramadan.
Officials said 51 vendors were detained for charging more than government-set prices. Three shops and two superstores were closed for a short time because they kept breaking the rules.
The administration checked key markets like Pakistan Town, H-9 Ramadan Bazaar, and Sabzi Mandi. In DHA, they sealed two superstores and arrested three workers for overcharging. In upscale areas like G-12 and G-13, seven vendors were detained for not following price lists.

Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Nawaz Memon, said the crackdown will continue throughout Ramadan without favoring anyone. He wants to protect citizens from being overcharged. “We will take strict action against those ignoring official rates,” he said.
He added that there will be no softness toward people making unfair profits during Ramadan. The administration is using all its resources to make sure rules are followed.
Memon said helping citizens is the top goal. He told vendors to stick to regulations or face penalties. He asked residents to check official price lists before buying and report problems to the district helpline at 051-9108084.
In Pakistan Town, surprise checks led to three shops being sealed and eight sellers arrested. At Sabzi Mandi market, 17 vendors were taken into custody for raising prices on items like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes.
In the Industrial Area, seven sellers were arrested in H-9 for overpricing daily essentials. Four shopkeepers in Tramri Market and five in Sattar Market faced action after complaints from customers. At the H-9 Ramadan Bazaar, three people were detained for poor parking management that inconvenienced the public.
