PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirms commitment to economic reforms in meeting with IMF MD

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister  Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director (MD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on the sidelines of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025. The meeting focused on Pakistan’s ongoing IMF program and the macroeconomic stability achieved through the government’s comprehensive reform agenda.

The discussions emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to implementing structural reforms and maintaining fiscal discipline, which have been crucial in restoring economic stability and will be vital in driving sustainable growth moving forward.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the progress made under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which has been instrumental in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and putting it on the path to long-term recovery.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to sustain the reform momentum, particularly in key areas such as tax reform, energy sector efficiency, and private sector development. The Prime Minister assured Ms. Georgieva of Pakistan’s commitment to economic prudence, efficiency, and sustainability as essential pillars for achieving inclusive and sustained growth.

The IMF Managing Director also recognized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and personal commitment to driving the country’s reform agenda, which has been crucial in achieving economic stability and progress. She reaffirmed the IMF’s continued support for Pakistan’s reform agenda, emphasizing the importance of sustained fiscal discipline, structural reforms, and good governance to ensure long-term economic stability and growth.
