ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a temporary suspension of water supply from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad.
As per the media report, CDA officials said the annual cleaning of the 18-20 km canal that supplies water from Khanpur Dam will start on February 10 and continue until February 22, 2025.
Report say during this period, water supply from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad will be completely stopped. However, the Sangjani Water Treatment Plant will provide about 4 million gallons of water daily from its stored reserves.
CDA stated that this supply will be 60% less than usual, meaning only 4 million gallons will be available instead of the usual 10 million gallons, this will affect sectors D-12, G-10, G-11, F-10, F-11, and parts of G-9.

The CDA will also clean the Sangjani Water Treatment Plant during this time. Residents in affected sectors are advised to use water sparingly from February 10 to 22 and store water in tanks.
CDA officials assured that efforts will be made to provide alternative water sources to these sectors, but they urged citizens to cooperate and reduce water use.
Officials also warned residents not to wash cars or floors during the cleaning period to avoid wasting water. Heavy fines may be imposed for misuse.

Due to the lack of winter rains, water supply from dams has already been reduced to preserve reserves for the upcoming monsoon season.
