ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action against online content deemed harmful, blocking nearly one million websites spreading blasphemous and immoral material.
According to PTA officials, a total of 101,083 URLs containing blasphemous content and over 844,000 immoral websites have been blocked. This move follows a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to PTA to curb the spread of objectionable content online.
The PTA revealed that there are 20 million daily attempts to access immoral websites within Pakistan. While these sites are blocked at the international gateway, internet users often circumvent these restrictions by using VPNs.
The authority stated that the websites involved in spreading prohibited content are identified and blocked based on information provided by government departments and concerned citizens.
