Public holiday declared for Baba Guru Nanak’s 555th birth anniversary

RAWALPINDI: A public holiday has been declared in Nankana Sahib on Friday, November 15, 2024, in connection with the celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday.

As per report, Deputy Commissioner Nankana, Taslim Akhtar Rao, has issued a notification of a public holiday in the entire district on November 15. According to the notification, the holiday was declared on the occasion of the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.

The celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday will continue from November 13 to 16, and visas have also been issued to thousands of foreign Sikh pilgrims to participate in the celebrations.

Earlier, the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi issued visas to more than 3,000 Indian pilgrims to participate in the 555th birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak, the spiritual leader of the Sikhs.

The spokesperson for the Pakistani High Commission said that visas have been issued to Indian pilgrims from November 14 to 23. Visas have been issued to Indian pilgrims under the 1974 Pakistan-India Religious Tourism Agreement.

Sikh pilgrims will enter Pakistan on the morning of November 14 via the Wagah border, while the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji will be celebrated at Gurdwara Janmashtami, Nankana Sahib, on November 15.

During their 10-day stay in Pakistan, Indian Sikh pilgrims will also have darshan and pilgrimage at Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Hassan Abdal; Gurdwara Sacha Sauda, Farooqabad; and Gurdwara Ruri Sahib, Aimanabad.

Indian guests will attend the ceremony at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, on November 19. After staying at Gurdwara Dera Sahib, Lahore, Indian pilgrims will return via the Wagah border on November 24.
