It should be noted, he was appointed as the HEC chairman on July 29, 2022, Dr Ahmed, a renowned educationist, had earlier held the post from 2014 to 2018.

During the PTI government, the term of the HEC chairman was changed from four years to two years by an official order. This change appeared to be aimed at getting rid of the then Chairman HEC, Dr. Tariq Banuri, who was removed before his term ended.

The Ministry of Federal Education supported a two-year extension for Dr. Mukhtar and submitted a summary to the PM Office regarding this matter.

The appointment is for one year, starting from June 30, the Prime Minister’s Secretary, Asad-ur-Rehman Geelani, has informed the secretary of the Establishment Division that the appointment has been approved.
