MARDAN: At least three people died and seven others were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion near a police van close to Jalala bridge in the Takhtbhai region of Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday.
According to a media report, Rescue teams, police, and security forces promptly arrived at the scene following the explosion and transported the injured to a nearby hospital.
As per report, nearly 11 people were injured when the blast occured. The wounded were rushed to the hospital, where three of them succumbed to their injuries.
Mardan District Police Officer (DPO) Zahoor Barbar Afridi confirmed casualties from the bomb blast targeting police, noting that two officers traveling in the van were among the injured.
The official stated that the explosive device was planted along the roadside and detonated as soon as the law enforcement van passed by.
He mentioned that a nearby rickshaw was struck by the blast, resulting in one of the deceased being a passenger in the rickshaw.
The DPO also mentioned that a search operation was initiated after cordoning off the area.
