ISLAMABAD: Engineer Aamir Khattak, the Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, announced that the Rawalpindi Ring Road project is slated for completion by December 2024, as per the deadline set by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
As per Engineer Khattak, the Annual Development Programme (ADP) includes 315 schemes in the Rawalpindi district, with 226 currently in progress and 89 being new. Among the largest ongoing projects essential for the city’s growth are the Dadocha Dam and the Rawalpindi Ring Road.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project consists of three stages. The first phase involves constructing a 38.3 km stretch from Banth to Thalian, phase two connects this route to the motorway, and phase three includes the Eastern Loop.
Starting in September 2023, the initial phase is set to be completed by December 2024. The aim is to promote industrial growth and reduce transportation congestion.
Additionally, work on the Dadocha Dam has commenced. Once completed, Rawalpindi will have access to 35 million gallons of pure drinking water per day. The revised project proposal has been submitted, and the land acquisition for the dam is complete.
Other significant developments in Rawalpindi include the Lai Motorway, Kutchery Chowk, Safe City Project, various water supply initiatives, and the refurbishment of Holy Family and Benazir Bhutto Hospitals.
The launch of the ‘Vehicle on Wheels’ mobile health service project has been announced. Furthermore, notable initiatives include the establishment of a 150-bed Rehab Center at Wah General Hospital, improvements to the Pirwadhai Bus Stand, the establishment of a new slaughterhouse, and the construction of Freelance IT and Gymkhana facilities in all districts.
In the realm of education, there are ongoing efforts to enhance facilities, particularly through the Education Department’s key initiatives. Divisional Public Schools have been set up across all districts.
