LAHORE: Sardar Saleem Haider assumed office as the new governor of Punjab in a ceremony conducted at the Governor’s House on Friday.
Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan administered the oath to the newly appointed governor. The swearing-in event, initially set for May 5, was rescheduled to May 7 due to unavoidable circumstances.
Among the dignitaries present were Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and others. President Asif Ali Zardari recently ratified the appointments of Saleem Haider, Faisal Karim Kundi, and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail as governors of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, respectively.
This decision was made following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation, as outlined in Article 101(1) of the Constitution.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nominated Saleem Haider for the Punjab governorship after deliberation, and Haider’s name was endorsed by both Bhutto-Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House.
