ISLAMABAD: Former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi got into a big argument, during which Kakar warned that if he were to “tell the truth about Form-47, the party would have nowhere to hide”.
According to sources familiar with the incident, tensions arose between the two politicians over the wheat scandal at a private hotel.
Abbasi was questioned for attributing blame for the wheat scandal to Kakar’s tenure as caretaker premier during a televised interview.
“Kakar questioned Abbasi’s intentions, while Abbasi defended his statements as truthful,” the sources disclosed.
During their conversation, Kakar hinted at potentially revealing information about Form-47, suggesting it would embarrass the PML-N.
This reference to Form-47 possibly being tampered with echoed allegations from the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), whose candidates claim electoral fraud in the Feb 8 general elections.
However, Kakar later clarified that his remarks were misconstrued by the media, explaining that he merely corrected Abbasi’s inaccurate statements about the caretaker government’s handling of wheat procurement.
Kakar dismissed rumors of hostility, affirming his cordial relationship with Abbasi and mentioning a subsequent phone call between them after the reported altercation.
He emphasized Abbasi’s continued status as a colleague in parliament while firmly refuting any claims of a contentious confrontation.
