PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Enhanced Pakistan-France Cooperation in Trade and Investment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to bolster cooperation between Pakistan and France, particularly in trade and investment domains.

During a meeting with French Ambassador Nicolas Galey, who paid a courtesy visit, the Prime Minister extended an invitation to French companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan. He welcomed the forthcoming visit of corporate leaders from leading French firms to Pakistan.

Accompanied by Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and SAPM Tariq Fatemi, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s priority of stabilizing the economy.

Ambassador Galey presented a congratulatory letter from French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to Prime Minister Shehbaz on his re-election, which was gratefully acknowledged.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underlined the friendly relations between Pakistan and France, acknowledging the recent efforts to strengthen bilateral ties despite past challenges.

Reflecting on his interactions with French President Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister recalled meetings during the UNGA Session in 2022 and the Paris Conference on New Financing Pact on Climate Change in June 2023.

He praised President Macron’s contributions, including virtual participation in the Geneva Conference on Resilient Pakistan in January 2023. Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated his invitation for President Macron to visit Pakistan officially.

The meeting also addressed the situation in Gaza, with the Prime Minister commending French peace initiatives in the region.

Discussions on Afghanistan’s situation took place as well. Ambassador Galey appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz’s reception and briefed him on bilateral developments, including an upcoming French delegation’s visit for discussions on cooperation.

He expressed France’s eagerness to collaborate with Pakistan in multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
