PIA’s Debt Soars to Rs429 Billion: Airline Owes Massive Sums to Banks and Government

ISLAMABAD: Details have emerged regarding Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) debt to the government and banks, showing that its total dues reached Rs429.267 billion by September 30, 2023.

The aviation ministry has provided this information to the National Assembly, revealing that PIA owes Rs268.2 billion to banks and Rs161.067 billion to the government of Pakistan, making a total of Rs429.267 billion.

According to documents presented to the National Assembly, these loans were obtained by PIA to tackle cash flow challenges and support the procurement of aircraft, engines, and spares essential for operational continuity.
