PESHAWAR: The crescent moon for Ramadan 1445 Hijri has been sighted in Pakistan, and the first day of fasting will be observed on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for announcing the sighting of the new moon, met in Peshawar on Monday evening. The committee received testimonies from various parts of the country that the moon had been sighted.
In Lahore, the zonal committee received testimony that the moon had been sighted, and the members of the committee also observed it themselves.
The moon was also clearly seen in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, and other cities.
The announcement of the sighting of the Ramadan moon was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Officials from the Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and other relevant agencies were also present to assist the committee.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and it is a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection for Muslims around the world. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking from dawn to dusk. They also spend more time in prayer and reading the Quran.
