ISLAMABAD: The central control room of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has become inactive due to the cessation of mobile phone and internet services. According to the spokesperson of the control room, no complaints have been received thus far.
Haroon Shinwari, the spokesperson for the ECP control room, stated that they have not received any complaints related to the shutdown of internet and mobile phone services. He further mentioned that polling is proceeding peacefully across the nation.
It’s important to note that the general elections of 2024 are underway, but due to security reasons, the interim government has opted to temporarily suspend mobile and internet services nationwide.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has urged the ECP to promptly restore mobile phone services nationwide.
He stated, “I have instructed my party to engage with both the ECP and the courts regarding this matter.” Additionally, PPP’s Saeed Ghani has echoed the demand for the restoration of internet services.
Concerns have been raised by voters regarding the suspension of mobile services. Many citizens are encountering difficulties accessing information about their respective constituencies.
Some individuals informed a Private TV Channel that polling station details and voting information were primarily accessible via mobile phones, making it virtually impossible to utilize ECP 8300 services.
