CHINIOT: As the February 8 polls approach, political parties engage in intense verbal clashes. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, in a speech on Tuesday in Chiniot, Punjab, targeted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, accusing him of harboring hatred and seeking revenge in his pursuit of a fourth term as prime minister.

“I am familiar with them [PML-N], they harbor hatred, malice, and revenge in their hearts […] Mian Sahib’s first and second term was nothing short of a dictatorship,” Bilawal stated during the political gathering.

These comments come amid a verbal showdown between political parties, including former allies such as PML-N and PPP, as they strive to convey their respective narratives leading up to the February 8 polls.

Continuing his criticism of Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal cautioned that the revenge-oriented approach of the PML-N leader would have detrimental effects on the masses, the country, and its economy.

“Mian Sahib is accustomed to [seeking] revenge. If he becomes the [country’s] prime minister for the fourth time, he would seek revenge in ways unimaginable,” warned the PPP chief.

He also accused the PML-N of basing their politics on violence and issued a warning to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, suggesting that disastrous consequences could follow if Nawaz secures a fourth term as the country’s premier.

“The problem is that they [the Sharifs] only think about themselves. He [Nawaz] is [only] concerned about how to sit on the prime minister’s chair,” remarked the former foreign minister, urging the public to question the PML-N leadership about their actions in the previous three tenures.

Maintaining his commitment to a “new politics” agenda, Bilawal once again criticized the divisive and hateful politics practiced by “old politicians” and promised to refrain from such a trend if elected into power.

“Instead of [emphasizing] personal revenge, [we] should think of ways to address the issues faced by the people,” stated the PPP leader. Expanding on his party’s election manifesto, Bilawal announced the PPP’s intention to double salaries.
