LAHROE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has been selected as the party’s contender for the prime ministerial position in the forthcoming general elections set for February 8.

The decision was made during the meeting of the PPP’s top decision-making body, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), held at Bilawal House in Lahore on Wednesday to strategize the party’s campaign for the upcoming general election.

Bilawal is also running for NA-127 Lahore, where his opponents include Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shaista Pervaiz Malik and a candidate backed by PTI.

The CEC gathering focused on the party’s election manifesto, prioritizing youth and women’s empowerment, employment, healthcare, and education.

It reiterated full confidence in the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Among those present at the meeting were PPP leaders including Secretary General Taj Haider, Syed Khursheed Shah, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Samina Khalid Ghurki, Murad Ali Shah, Chaudhry Aslam Gill, and Ali Badr.

Speaking to the media afterward, Bilawal mentioned his decision to contest the election from Lahore regardless of others’ opinions.

Accompanied by PPP Secretary General Taj Haider and former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Bilawal commented, “Gen Zia imposed the PML-N on us and Gen Faiz Hameed imposed the PTI.”

He criticized both PML-N and PTI as representatives of the ruling elite who have been unable to address the country’s issues. He emphasized that PPP consistently presents its vision and manifesto prior to elections, prioritizing the people.

He outlined PPP’s intentions to establish energy parks in every district headquarters and provide free electricity up to 300 units. Additionally, he pledged free and quality education after assuming power, along with a 200% increase in employee wages and the expansion of the BISP network.

Bilawal expressed gratitude to the PPP CEC for nominating him as the prime ministerial candidate.
