ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan said on Monday that he plans to ask ex-army chief General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa and US embassy officials to speak for him in the cipher case.

During a casual talk with reporters in Adiala jail, Khan said, “I will bring General Bajwa and US embassy officials to support my side in the case. General Bajwa acted as per Donald Lu’s instructions.”

A court established by the Official Secrets Act 2023 held a public hearing at Adiala jail, where Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi are currently kept in custody.

This new trial began after the Islamabad High Court canceled the earlier trial held in jail on November 21. Even though they were charged on October 23, the charges were dropped after the IHC’s decision.

Talking to the media today, the former prime minister said he is confident his party will win in the February 8 polls and believes his arrest was planned in advance.

Khan thanked PTI members who switched sides, rejecting claims that negotiations happened while he was in jail. Earlier, PTI President Parvez Elahi said that European Union and International Monetary Fund officials often visited Khan at Adiala.

He mentioned that he’s not facing difficulties in jail and responded to allegations from Khawar Maneka, his wife Bushra Bibi’s former husband, saying he saw his wife’s face for the first time after their wedding.

Additionally, the former prime minister claimed that Bushra’s sons are being pressured to speak against their mother.
