ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar firmly dismissed any potential election delay, affirming that the elections will proceed as scheduled.

In September, the Election Commission of Pakistan had disclosed the plan to hold the general elections in the last week of January 2024, yet specific dates for the election timetable were not announced.

During an interview on a private television channel this Wednesday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar addressed concerns about the electoral process’s uncertainty, stating, “I have no doubts whatsoever. I believe the elections will be officially announced and conducted punctually.”

He emphasized that there is currently no room for postponing the elections.

After consulting with political party representatives on the code of conduct for the forthcoming general elections, the Election Commission declared in a statement that it would rigorously enforce the code of conduct to ensure a fair and impartial electoral process.

The Caretaker Prime Minister also clarified that all registered political parties in the country possess the legal and constitutional right to conduct their campaigns for public support. However, he emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility, not his, to address any legal impediments faced by these parties.

When asked about allegations of bias towards the Pakistan Muslim League-N, the caretaker prime minister dismissed such notions, attributing them to the strategies employed by parties seeking public attention in the lead-up to the elections.
