MASTUNG: At least 53 people, including a police officer, were killed and dozens injured in a suicide blast near a 12th Rabiul Awwal procession in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Friday.
Private Media confirmed the casualties with the assistance of Commissioner Attaul Munim.
The explosion occurred as people gathered for an Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH) procession near Madina Masjid on Al Falah Road. The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear.
Earlier this month, a blast in the same district left 11 people injured, including Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah.
Additionally, a Levies official was fatally shot at a bus stand by unidentified assailants a week prior, injuring two bystanders. In May of this year, unidentified attackers targeted a polio vaccination team on the outskirts of Mastung in the Killi Sour Karez area, resulting in the death of a police officer.
In October of the previous year, a bomb attack targeting two vehicles in the mountainous area of Qabu in Mastung led to three fatalities and six injuries.
Furthermore, in July 2018, a devastating suicide blast in the same district claimed the lives of at least 128 people, including politician Nawabzada Siraj Raisani, while over 200 others were injured.
