ISLAMABAD: The bail application of Soumya Asim, the wife of civil judge Asim Hafeez, who was accused in the domestic worker Rizwana torture case, was rejected by the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad. The court, presided over by Judge Farrukh Fareed, listened to the arguments from both sides.

Soumya Asim’s lawyer argued that she had cooperated with the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and maintained her innocence. The police record also indicated that she did not commit any violence and repeatedly requested for the maid to be sent back to her mother.

On the other hand, the prosecution insisted that Soumya Asim should not be granted bail as investigations were still ongoing. The defense claimed that the investigating officer did not thoroughly examine all aspects of the case.

The prosecutor highlighted that the victim, Rizwana, had sustained numerous injuries, and it was alleged that Soumya Asim had given acid to the girl during an incident at a bus stand.

The judge rejected the defense’s arguments and ordered Soumya Asim’s arrest, emphasizing that the case should be investigated impartially and without any pressure. The court stressed the importance of finding the truth based on honest evidence collection.
