ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that commercial bank branches open on Saturday will extend their operating hours until 5:30 pm on June 24 (Saturday).
This decision aims to facilitate the collection of taxes through Alternate Delivery Channels (ADCs) using the over-the-counter (OTC) facility.
In a statement released on Monday, the central bank advised all commercial banks to ensure the availability of their online payment facilities, such as internet banking and mobile apps, round-the-clock. This will provide convenience to taxpayers who wish to make online payments for government duties and taxes.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) requested this measure to aid taxpayers in fulfilling their obligations. It is worth mentioning that the Eid ul Adha holidays fall on the final days of the current financial year.
Traditionally, banks and financial institutions observe gazetted holidays during Eid ul Adha. Consequently, taxpayers are required to submit their taxes and duties prior to the holidays.
The sighting of the Zil Hajj moon today will determine the date of Eid ul Adha, which may be celebrated on June 29 (Thursday). The Met Office previously predicted that the moon’s birth would occur at 9:37 pm on June 18 and could be sighted on June 19.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convenes on the 29th day of each Islamic month to officially announce the sighting of the moon.
