Pakistan Sights Zil Hajj Moon, Sets June 29 for Eid ul Adha

ISLAMABAD: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, announced on Monday that the Zil Hajj moon had been sighted in Pakistan. This sighting paves the way for the celebration of Eid ul Adha across the country on June 29 (Thursday).

Moon Sighting Committee Meeting and Testimonies

The decision was made after a meeting of the moon sighting committee, where testimonies from various cities, including Karachi and Lahore, were received and thoroughly considered.

Attendance of Key Representatives

Representatives from important organizations such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, SUPARCO, the Department of Meteorology, and the Ministry of Science and Technology were present at the meeting. Additionally, zonal committee meetings of Ruet-e-Hilal were conducted in their respective cities.

Important Dates and Met Office’s Prediction

The first day of Zil Hajj is scheduled for June 20 (tomorrow), while Eid ul Adha will be observed on June 29 (Thursday). The Met Office had previously predicted the moon’s birth on June 18 at 9:37 pm, with the possibility of sighting on June 19.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s Tradition

It is customary for the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to convene on the 29th of every Islamic month and officially announce the date of Eid ul Adha after confirming the sighting of the moon.

Moon Sighting in Saudi Arabia and Related Dates

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, the crescent moon for Zil Hajj was sighted, marking the observation of the first day of the month on June 19. The day of Arafah, considered the holiest in Islam, will occur on Tuesday (June 27), with the first day of Eid ul Adha celebrated on Wednesday (June 28) in the kingdom.
