Aespa Fans Rally to Defend K-Pop Group Against Hate Over Unedited Pictures
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Fans of the popular K-pop group Aespa have rallied together to support their idols in the face of hate directed at the members over unedited pictures. The girls had recently participated in their first pitch-throwing ceremony at Yankee Stadium, during which they posed for several photos, some of which were unedited.

The unedited photos revealed the natural texture of the girls’ skin, a rarity in the heavily edited world of K-pop. A post titled “Aespa shows us how well Koreans Use Lighting And Editing” was created by a netizen, highlighting their skin texture and making comparisons to other idols.

Nevertheless, dedicated fans swiftly came to their defense, expressing their discontent with the criticism. One fan emphasized, “The fact that the comments think posting these photos is dragging them is kinda terrifying, like no sane person whose mind hasn’t been completely poisoned by extreme editing and beauty standards would ever think these photos are capable of dragging someone.”

Another fan chimed in, expressing frustration with the prevailing societal view that portrays acne or blemishes as something horrific and promotes the belief that individuals naturally possess airbrushed features, even with makeup. They remarked, “They look HUMAN. People bashing them for that is insane to me. Yes, even the hottest idols can have pimples or acne. It’s because they’re human. Get over it.”

It appears that Aespa, in particular, continues to face scrutiny. One fan lamented, “Aespa just can’t catch a break smh. Everyone’s always trying to find something to nitpick with them.”
