ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the government to provide information on the individuals responsible for recording audio clips and has halted the actions of a special parliamentary committee against the son of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar.
This development came during a hearing of a plea filed by Najam Saqib, the son of ex-CJP Nisar, against a special committee established by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to investigate audio clips allegedly featuring his voice.

During the hearing, Justice Babar Sattar suspended the summoning notice issued to Najam by the special committee and addressed the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office regarding the application. The court has also issued notices to the federal government, requesting information on the origin of the audio clips by June 19.

Justice Sattar questioned the federal government about the individuals responsible for recording the audios and expressed his curiosity regarding the authority under which the special committee initiated the probe.

Advocate Latif Khosa, representing the petitioner, informed the court that the rules for the special committee should be the same as those for a general committee. In response, the judge stated that the concerned ministry would need to be made a party to the case.

Khosa clarified that there is no relevant ministry involved in this matter, but they would comply with the court’s direction. He emphasized that their petition challenges the authority of the speaker and the assembly to interfere in private matters and does not challenge the matter currently pending in the Supreme Court.

In response to the judge’s inquiry about the recording of the audios, Najam’s counsel stated that the parties involved should answer first to clarify the situation.
