In a thrilling conclusion to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, Pakistan showcased their dominance in various statistical categories.

However, it was Bangladesh’s narrow victory over Ireland in Chelmsford on Sunday that marked the end of the inaugural competition. Ultimately, New Zealand was crowned the overall winners.

Super League: The Road to the World Cup:

The Super League served as the primary qualifying competition for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Eight top teams competed fiercely for a spot in the highly anticipated 50-over showcase.

The Standings: New Zealand Claims Top Spot:

Following the intense battles, New Zealand secured their place at the World Cup by finishing atop the standings. With an impressive record of 16 victories out of 24 matches, the Blackcaps demonstrated their prowess. Reigning World Cup champions, England, closely trailed with 15 wins from an equal number of games. Bangladesh claimed the third spot, while India settled for fourth place.

Pakistan’s Strong Performance and Direct Qualification:

Pakistan showcased their cricketing prowess, securing the fifth position in the competition with 13 wins out of 21 matches. Joining them, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa also earned direct qualification for the World Cup through their performances in the Super League. However, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands, along with Ireland, will have to participate in the upcoming Qualifier tournament.

Leading Run-Scorer: Babar Azam’s Stellar Performance:

Throughout the Super League, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, emerged as the leading run-scorer, accumulating an impressive tally of 1454 runs. With an average of 76.52, his remarkable performance included nine fifties and six centuries.

Record-Breaking Innings: Fakhar Zaman’s Heroics

Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan’s opening batter, etched his name in history by setting the record for the highest individual score in the competition. In an awe-inspiring display of skill, the 33-year-old smashed a remarkable 193 runs off 155 balls against South Africa in 2021. His innings featured 18 boundaries and 10 powerful sixes.

The Qualifier Tournament: Determining the Final World Cup Qualifiers:

Nepal, Oman, and Scotland secured their places through the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, while the United States and the UAE earned their tickets via the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off.

The Scheduled to commence on June 18 in Zimbabwe, the Qualifier will determine the final two teams to qualify for this year’s World Cup.
