The scholarships cover students in 65 universities, 12 medical and dental colleges, and 359 other colleges. Students must be under 22, have a Punjab domicile, and belong to families earning less than Rs300,000 per month to qualify.
To keep the process transparent, applications were accepted online and verified by multiple committees under the leadership of Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.
So far, 2,473 students from Punjab University and 2,570 students from Rawalpindi Division have received scholarships. 1,886 students at UET Lahore, 1,660 from public universities, and 637 students from federal universities also received awards — including many from private institutions for the first time.
Maryam Nawaz added that 60% of scholarships are reserved for female students, calling it a real change for Punjab’s youth.
She also announced the setting up of a new Artificial Intelligence institute in Nawaz Sharif IT City Lahore, which will train students in modern technologies like AI and Cybersecurity.
Looking ahead, the chief minister said the government plans to offer 50,000 scholarships by next year, distribute laptops, and provide 100,000 e-bikes free of cost to deserving students.
“Our critics talk, but we deliver real change,” she said, expressing hope that these hardworking students will shape a better future for Pakistan.
