Punjab govt approves power tariff cut for energy companies

LAHORE – The Punjab government has announced a reduction in power tariffs to help lower electricity bills for the public.

As per the details, the provincial cabinet has approved tariff cuts for Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Pvt Ltd and Punjab Thermal Power Pvt Ltd. According to the official statement, this decision could reduce tariffs by 30 to 40 percent.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that people trust the PML-N because it delivers on its promises. She also said a big relief package will soon be given to wheat farmers.

The cabinet also approved the formation of “Air Punjab Pvt Ltd” and the launch of electric buses in all nine divisions of the province. CM Maryam Nawaz ordered the setup of charging stations in major cities for these buses.

She also directed action to shut down vaping centres across the province and ordered that all government schools must be equipped with basic facilities.

The cabinet gave approval for transferring land to establish Nawaz Sharif Medical City in Lahore.

The chief minister also instructed that safety gear must be provided to all workers, especially those working on high-rise buildings and cleaning gutters. “Workers lose their lives falling from buildings. The government cannot remain silent,” she said.

Separately, the Punjab government has decided to improve the condition of the Lahore Metro Bus Service. A major repair and upgrade plan has been prepared.

According to official documents, Rs 2.105 billion will be spent on repairing 25 metro stations. Another Rs 1.7 billion will be used to shift all stations to solar power. Rs 1.5 billion will go towards fixing the metro tracks.

The repair work includes station ceiling repairs, escalator and canopy replacement, pedestrian bridges, ticket booths, and polishing of platforms. NESPAK has completed the survey and cost estimate on the orders of the chief minister.
