ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) held a meeting, led by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to address illegal housing schemes. The meeting focused on societies that have not started development work despite having approved layout plans.

As per the report, a CDA spokesperson said the meeting took place at CDA Headquarters with board members, the Director General of Planning, the Director General of Special Projects, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, the Deputy Director General of Enforcement, the Director of DMA, the Director of Admin, ICT, and other officials present.

The group decided to take legal action against illegal housing and cooperative societies in Islamabad, following the law.

In the past, people have complained that the CDA’s planning wing approved layout plans for several housing schemes, allowing them to sell plot files without requiring any development work to begin.

During the meeting, it was agreed to publish details of illegal housing societies in private newspapers to inform the public about their legal status before investing.

This information can also be checked through the CDA’s Planning Wing or the CDA website, which lists the status of legal and illegal housing societies in Islamabad, according to the spokesperson.

The meeting also decided to take legal action against societies involved in the illegal transfer of plots, especially those that do not pay the required plot transfer fees to the CDA. Additionally, a ban will be placed on selling construction materials to illegal housing and cooperative societies.

The meeting further decided that construction material dealers must check a housing society’s approved layout plan and No Objection Certificate (NOC) before selling materials. Legal action will be taken against dealers who supply materials to illegal societies.

In another development, Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa visited the construction site of the Islamabad Model Jail. He was joined by Inspector General of Islamabad Syed Nasir Ali Rizvi and other senior officials. They reviewed the ongoing construction and received updates on the project’s progress.

Officials informed Chairman Randhawa that the construction is being completed in stages. In the first phase, 98% of the RCC compound and boundary walls are finished, and 72% of the barracks construction is complete.

Chairman Randhawa instructed officials to ensure a steady supply of water and electricity to the jail. He also asked them to finalize the design and cost estimates for the sewage treatment plant as soon as possible.

He emphasized the need to prepare furniture for the admin block, hospital, and warden barracks without delay. Randhawa stressed the importance of maintaining high construction standards and completing the work on time, saying, “There should be no compromise on the quality or timeline of this important project.”

Once finished, the Islamabad Model Jail will be a modern correctional facility with better infrastructure and facilities. Officials promised to complete the remaining work efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.
