LAHORE: The Lahore city administration is setting up sales points for sacrificial animals at cattle markets, aiming to have them ready by May 20, 2025 for Eidul Azha. Arrangements are being finalized, according to a local newspaper.
These sales points will have facilities like fodder stalls, mobile banks, water, electricity, tents, medical booths, and rest areas. An official told the newspaper that this year’s arrangements will be better than last year’s. Selling animals outside these designated points will not be allowed.
The planned sales points include Shahpur Kanjran cattle market on Multan Road, Saggian Road near Sui Gas Office, Barki Road near Paragon City, New King Lane Housing Society, Sport Complex at Adda Rakh Chabeel, LDA City near Sidhar village, Kahna Kaacha, and near Haveli Markaz in Allama Iqbal Town.
Shahpur Kanjran is a permanent market managed by the Punjab Cattle Market Management & Development Company, while others will operate temporarily until Eidul Azha, managed by local town administrations.
Animal sales have not yet started due to low customer turnout. An official said most people buy animals a week before Eidul Azha, expecting business to begin around May 20 and increase by late May.

The administration is working to improve sanitation and sewerage systems through inspections and actions. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza said they are committed to making Lahore cleaner and free of encroachments.

During visits to City Tehsil, including Qartaba Chowk, Tollinton Market, and Nonarian Road, the DC checked sanitation, nomad hut removal, and sewerage conditions.
Joined by Lahore Metropolitan Corporation Chief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia and Assistant Commissioner Babar Ali Rai, he reviewed ongoing work and construction quality on a drainage channel near Tollinton Market, stressing the need for durable infrastructure.
He instructed the Lahore Waste Management Company to maintain effective cleaning and the Water and Sanitation Agency to fix sewerage issues and clear drains.
Solid waste must be collected daily and taken to designated dumping sites to prevent pollution and improve the city’s appearance. The administration was also told to relocate nomads’ huts and cattle from residential areas to enhance sanitation.
