ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that 37 Pakistani nationals have been evacuated and arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The evacuees were received by Pakistan’s Consul General Khalid Majid at Jeddah Port, and the Foreign Office expressed its gratitude to the government of Saudi Arabia for their support and hospitality.

This marks the continuation of Pakistan’s commitment to the welfare of overseas Pakistanis, as over 700 individuals have been evacuated from Sudan so far. The evacuation process comes in the wake of ten days of heavy fighting until Monday which has killed hundreds of people in Khartoum. Witnesses have reported fresh air strikes despite a US-brokered ceasefire between Sudan’s warring generals bringing some calm to the capital.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement saying that Ambassador Meer Bahrose Regi’s team in Khartoum and Port Sudan are working day and night to facilitate the stay of Pakistanis who are still in Sudan until their evacuation to Pakistan. The government is also remaining engaged with friendly countries in the region, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to facilitate the ongoing evacuation process.
