LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has directed NADRA to issue QR codes for the online verification of all Arms licenses. According to the Home Secretary’s spokesperson, law enforcement agencies will be able to verify Arms licenses using these QR codes.
A high-level meeting on Arms license verification was chaired by the Punjab Home Secretary. The meeting was attended by Special Home Secretary Fazal Rahman, Additional Home Secretary Judicial Imran Hussain Ranjha, and NADRA officials. During the meeting, NADRA was given a one-week deadline to attach QR codes to all Arms licenses and link them with the license holder’s CNIC. Additionally, commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab were instructed to include QR codes on all Arms license-related orders.

The spokesperson stated that this step will help eliminate fake licenses and ensure that individuals involved in serious crimes do not receive gun licenses. He further added that amendments in the arms rules are being made to facilitate citizens, and both individual and business gun license rules are being simplified. The role of the Directorate of Monitoring in license verification is also being expanded.
The meeting also recommended changes to the fee structure for obtaining and renewing Arms licenses. Meanwhile, the process of computerizing manual gun licenses is being closely monitored.
