LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the creation of a policy to replace diesel buses with electric buses.
As per the private tv channel report, Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court heard a case about preventing environmental pollution. Officials appeared in court for this matter.
Justice Shahid Karim said that a phase-out policy should be made to convert diesel buses into electric buses. He added that moving to electric buses is important, even if it takes two or three years.
The Lahore High Court also directed the Punjab Transport Department to make a policy for rickshaw manufacturers.
Justice Shahid Karim said the transport department should develop a policy for rickshaws. He noted that rickshaws can be converted into electric ones, as has been done successfully in India and other countries. He suggested working with rickshaw manufacturers to plan how to control smoke.

The court also said that a proper traffic plan is needed for school hours in the morning and after school. It added that big schools must have parking areas. The court stated that people need to cooperate with the government, keep their homes clean, and care for the beauty of their surroundings.
Before this, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had officially launched Pakistan’s first fully electric vehicle (EV) bus service. The Chief Minister rode the electric bus and inspected it in detail.
Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar gave a detailed briefing about the Electric Vehicle Bus Service Pilot Project in Lahore. The briefing explained that the electric bus has a GPS location recorder, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and other facilities.
The electric bus has 30 seats and can carry 80 passengers. It will have ramps and reserved seats for special persons. For the first time, an anti-slip sheet has been used on the floor for passenger safety.
For Pakistan’s fully electric bus, nine special charging stations have been set up at the Green Town Hamdard Chowk Depot. After each charge, the bus can travel 250 kilometers and complete its route four times. A route display will also be available for the convenience of passengers.
