Ilyas is the first premier of the region to be disqualified in a contempt of court case.
The court’s decision came after Ilyas was summoned for using a “threatening tone” in one of his speeches. During the hearing, which was conducted by a full bench led by Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja, clips of the prime minister’s speech were played, and Ilyas gave an unconditional apology to the court.
The AJK premier was sentenced until the rising of the court. The prime minister had criticized the stay orders by the courts a day earlier, saying the practice was affecting the government’s performance.
