ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has fixed Khawar Maneka’s appeal for hearing tomorrow against the acquittal of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and former First Lady Bushra Bibi in the iddat marriage case. Justice Azam Khan, recently appointed to the court, will preside over the hearing.

Khawar Maneka had filed the appeal challenging the decision of the Additional Sessions Judge dated July 13, 2024, which acquitted Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the case. The petitioner has sought to set aside the acquittal order, terming it unlawful.

In his appeal,  Khawar Maneka said the additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) had acquitted Mr Khan and Bushra Bibi while ignoring key aspects of the Iddat case.

Earlier, the Additional Sessions Judge had acquitted the two, but Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s former husband, later moved the High Court against the verdict.

It may be recalled that the case was initially decided by Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah, who had sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to seven years in prison. However, the District and Sessions Court later overturned the conviction, declaring them not guilty.

During the proceedings in the Sessions Court, Imran Khan’s counsel, Salman Akram Raja, and Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Riaz Gul, conducted cross-examination of the prosecution’s four witnesses. The witnesses included Khawar Maneka, Awn Chaudhry, cleric Mufti Saeed, and a servant, Latif.
