ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced a major gas and condensate discovery in the Samanasuk Formation exploratory zone, marking a significant milestone for the company and the country’s energy sector.

The breakthrough was achieved at the Bettani-02 (Slant) well in the Wali Block, located in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. OGDC operates the Wali exploration licence with a 100% working interest.

The Bettani-02 well was drilled to a depth of 5,080 metres into the Shinawari Formation. Subsequent testing, using the Cased Hole Drill Stem Test-I, recorded a flow rate of 2.14 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 74 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate, with a wellhead flow pressure of 435 pounds per square inch (psi).

This discovery extends the hydrocarbon play area in the southwestern part of the Bannu Basin and de-risks the exploration potential of deeper reservoirs in the region.

OGDC also revealed that it has designed a comprehensive exploration programme aimed at further enhancing the country’s energy self-reliance.
