Federal Urdu university department head dismissed for harassing female lecturer

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment (FOSP) has dismissed the head of the Department of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science, and Technology (FUUAST) for harassing a female lecturer.

According to a private newspaper report, the Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment, in a decision on the complaint of lecturer Urooj Malik, dismissed Dr. Hafiz Ishaq, the head of the Department of the Federal Urdu University, from his job for harassing a female professor.

The Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment also imposed a fine of Rs 1 million on Professor Dr. Hafiz Ishaq.

Lecturer Urooj Malik had filed a complaint against Professor Hafiz Ishaq. FOSPA also sought a compliance report from the Federal Urdu University by December 5.

The Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment ordered Urooj Malik to pay Rs 800,000 out of the fine amount. In addition, according to the decision, Rs 200,000 out of the fine amount should be deposited in the national treasury.

Federal Ombudsman for Anti-Harassment Fawzia Waqar said that Dr. Hafiz Ishaq has been found guilty of a crime, on the basis of which this decision was announced.

It should be noted that Urooj Malik, a lecturer at the Federal Urdu University of Science and Technology, had filed a formal complaint against Dr. Hafiz Ishaq, the head of the Department of Business Administration.

The complaint cited repeated sexual harassment by the lecturer over several years and stated that the harassment continued despite attempts to resolve the issue informally, forcing Urooj Malik to seek justice through the legal system.
