KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Rs1.5 billion for repairing roads damaged by heavy rainfall in Karachi this year, as per tv channel report.
While presiding over a meeting to assess the damage, CM Shah says the Local Government Department to initiate an inquiry into the roads constructed or repaired after 2022 that have since been washed away.
“The quality of work falling short of standards is unacceptable, and strict action must be taken against those responsible,” the chief minister said, stressing the importance of accountability in the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure.
Meeting held at the CM House, was attended by Planning and Development Minister Nasir Shah, LG Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, P&D Chairman Najam Shah, LG Secretary Khalid Hyder Shah, Municipal Corporation Secretary Karachi Afzal Zaidi, and Finance Special Secretary Asghar Memon.

Murad instructed Ghani to launch an inquiry into the roads constructed or repaired after 2022 that have since been damaged. “This indicates that the quality of work was not upheld, and those responsible must be held accountable,” he said.
During the meeting, Wahab informed the CM that 17,861,500 square feet of roads had been damaged during the 2024 rainfall.
District South has 909,500 square feet of damaged roads, East 795,000 square feet, Central 832,000 square feet, West 13,750,000 square feet, Korangi 5,555,000 square feet, Malir 625,000 square feet, and 395,000 square feet of damaged flyovers and bridges.
CM Murad was informed that 120 roads, flyovers, and underpasses in the city required patchwork, including 20 roads in District South, 22 in East, seven in Central, 38 in West, 11 in Korangi, 12 in Malir, and 10 flyovers.
He added that approximately Rs1.5 billion were needed to repair and reconstruct the damaged roads, bridges, and flyovers, which the CM immediately approved with instructions to ensure quality work.
Wahab also informed the chief minister that six major projects would be initiated under the CLICK program.
